Working With Women Sustain High-Level Professional Functioning After Cancer

Dr. Shibani Ray-Mazumder, PhD, ScD, is a Cancer Psychologist, Professional Capacity Strategist, and creator of Moving Beyond Cancer™.

Her work focuses on an often-overlooked part of the cancer experience: what happens when a woman continues or returns to a demanding professional life and is still performing—but maintaining that level of performance requires more of her available capacity than it did before cancer.

Moving Beyond Cancer™ helps women understand what has changed, recognize the cost of continuing to compensate, and make more informed decisions about their professional lives after cancer.

Cancer Psychologist | Executive Leadership Strategist

I help accomplished women stop losing time to uncertainty after cancer. Through the Moving Beyond Cancer™ process, I help women rebuild self-trust, make confident decisions, strengthen their leadership presence, and create a clear path forward.

Because the goal isn't getting back to who you were before cancer. The goal is building confidence in the woman you are becoming.

As a cancer psychologist and executive leadership strategist, I have spent decades helping women navigate the emotional, relational, and professional challenges that arise during and after serious illness.

What many women discover after treatment ends is that the struggle is not simply physical. They may look "fine" on the outside while privately grappling with uncertainty, loss of confidence, decision fatigue, identity shifts, and the lingering impact of trauma.

Moving Beyond Cancer™ was created because surviving cancer requires more than medical recovery. It requires learning how to lead yourself again—with clarity, confidence, and trust in the woman you are becoming.

Why Dr. Shibani Created The Moving Beyond Cancer Framework

1. What I noticed

Women were returning to work and appearing successful, but the usual measure—“she's back at work”—wasn't capturing what it actually required for them to function.

2. Why that mattered to me

Someone can remain competent while using considerably more cognitive, emotional, or physical effort to maintain that competence.

3. What was missing

Traditional survivorship support often focuses on recovery and emotional adjustment. Professional support frequently focuses on job performance. Neither necessarily looks closely enough at the interaction between cancer and professional capacity.

Moving Beyond Cancer™ was created to help women stop simply compensating for what has changed and begin making more deliberate choices about how they use their available capacity—what deserves their energy, what no longer does, and what may need to change.

This is not therapy this is working with tools and strategies to clarify what has changed, reduce unnecessary strain, make more deliberate decisions, and find ways of working that are more sustainable now.

The goal isn’t to do less. It’s to stop paying an unnecessary price to keep doing everything the same way.

Why Trust Dr. Shibani?

My work sits at the intersection of cancer, psychology, and the realities of demanding professional lives.

I hold doctoral degrees in psychology and public health and am a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience working with people affected by cancer. My work with professional women has given me a close view of a challenge that often goes unrecognized: a woman can continue performing at a high level while privately using far more of her available capacity to do it.

That combination of cancer expertise, psychological training, and an understanding of high-level professional demands shapes the Moving Beyond Cancer™ approach.
